A Brief History

We are a chartered member of Prison Fellowship Ministries (Now PFM) which is based in USA, and was founded by Chuck Colson in 1976 after he was sent to prison for his involvement in the Watergate affair. While incarcerated Mr Colson saw the toll that crime takes on victims and communities; he saw that prison alone turns few lives around but when a prisoner’s life transforms, it changes the story for everyone. PFM has become the world's largest outreach to prisoners, ex-prisoners, crime victims, and their families.

The Bermuda branch of Prison Fellowship was introduced in 1984 by the Hon Neletha Butterfield who taught in Casemates prison at the time and Jack Harris who visited the inmates. Having heard of Chuck Colson’s work in collaboration with churches of all confessions and denominations. Mrs Butterfield and Mr Harris attained the Bermuda charter in 1989.
